Ride Plan: Route Map & Hazard/Risk Inventory

Module 8, Section 2 — prototype tool
VIEW MODE — Shared Plan — read only   
Use the tools on the left side of the map to build your plan. Drop a marker for a point hazard (e.g. a drop or blind corner), or draw a polygon for a zone (e.g. an exposure area). Each marker or zone you draw adds a row to the hazard table below — fill in the details there, including a Hazard Level to color-code it on the map. Use the snap route tool (trail icon) to draw your planned ride — it snaps to real trails and roads, drawn in orange with blue arrows showing direction of travel. Use the alt route button (fork icon) to draw alternative routes in different colors. The route is the same as an uploaded GPX route. A green Start marker is placed automatically at the beginning of the route and a black Finish marker at the end (same for an uploaded GPX route). An uploaded GPX route is simplified to a manageable number of points and becomes editable just like a hand-drawn one. While editing a route or zone, drag the square handles to move points or the round "+" handles to add a new point, and right-click (or two-finger tap) a square to remove that point. The round icon below the drawing tools places a numbered bail / exit point (red cross) — click it, then click the map. The eye icon at the bottom of the toolbar toggles the planned route on/off so you can check the trail difficulty colors underneath. As you draw or upload a route, distance markers appear along it (spacing adapts to zoom level), and a summary bar below the map shows the total distance. If your uploaded GPX file includes elevation data, that summary also shows total climb/descent, and an elevation profile with min/max elevation will appear below the map (also shown for snap-drawn routes). Use the expand icon near the zoom controls to view the map full screen — handy on larger screens.

Section 5 — Pre-Ride Briefing Plan

Write out what you'll actually say — not abstract notes. Include: route overview and decision points · pace expectations · communication signals · what to do if separated · bailout points · emergency contact · "the plan can change" · wildlife awareness · anything specific to today.

Section 7 — Emergency Action Plan

From the nearest point on your route where a vehicle can reach you — trailhead or mid-route road crossing — to the hospital ER. This is how long it takes to get an injured rider to definitive care once they're in a vehicle.
